I suspect that most people who initiate some sort of creative activity do so for their own satisfaction. Often as an escape from other commitments and pressures. That is certainly how I started. I have always preferred painting outdoors and sitting painting flowers in the garden was a pure pleasure, an indulgence even. As a by-product I had some pictures to put on my walls. That was enough.
As I have been able to dedicate more time and effort developing my skills I have come to appreciate the importance of having other people value your work particularly if they are fellow artists. That recognition has helped me to see potential, which has given me confidence to persevere.
