I’ve lived here now for well over a decade but The villages of Newton & Noss still afford delight. Today has been a series of small moments of pure pleasure which together have made for a long luscious day. The sun is still blazing away now at 8 in the evening and woke me with it’s insistence at 6am. By 7am the dog and I were down by the waterside enjoying reflections still and clear holding a mirror to the banks opposite. Green in every shade but all full volume not to be ignored. Back in the garden- morning tea in the arbour basking in the morning sun and observing from my secret hideaway the first stirrings of folk and wildlife on the water.
The day took a bit of a downward turn when I had to drive into Plymouth, but once I had whisked Nanny out of the City and onto the moors we were able to appreciate other benefits of living here. Lambs and spindly legged foals, moorland spaces and tree tunnel lanes. By way of contrast the grounds and gardens of Delamore, structured and composed, enhanced for a while by sculptures and shared. Some retail therapy and lunch at a moorland Nursery and Garden Centre then back to catch the incoming tide for an evening kayak. A mug of tea floating over clear and deep waters, while resting an arm on a handy railing and watching others at play in dinghy, yachts and ribs. Finally a glass of wine enjoying the warmth up on the decking. Watching the bumblebees making their way through the gaps in the wood to shelter for the night.
