'Working nine to five' -in it's day an anthem bemoaning the average working hours, now it's an aspiration. Lunch is not merely for wimps but betrays lack of commitment and ambition. Working from home has led to the expectation of being available at any time. Particularly if you have colleagues in a different time zone.
Speaking for myself I work best if there is a rhythm to my day. Activity balanced with time for reflection. Physical work balanced with mental challenge and meditation. Difficult to achieve if your work involves sitting at a computer screen. Companies which recognise the importance of creativity understand the need for relaxation, hence the much mocked office ball pool etc. There is a commercial motive beneath the provision of recreational facilities in the work place. People need to be able to dream in order to innovate. We need creativity in all fields, new models of how to achieve new things, better things. We need dreamers!
