blackbird singing in a cherry tree, outside my bedroom window this morning.
Among my earliest memories are of walking in country lanes. They were walks which seemed very long. We were repeatedly told home was just around the next bend but we were also entertained by being encouraged to really look and appreciate what was around us. Learning the names of wild flowers and creatures and marvelling at them. Noticing and taking pleasure in our surroundings is something I have tried to pass on to my children, and to my pupils at school. It also first motivated me to take up working in water colour and painting outside, preferably wild flowers. So I thoroughly enjoyed watching Art out of nature- a BBC Four programme looking at the work of artists in and on landscapes. If you missed it catch it on I-Player.
